Another year has come and gone…

Happy New Year! I know that a lot of musicians try to get the newsletter out on the first of the month, but it has been unseasonably sunny and beautiful the last few weeks, and I’ve been spending time outside with my wife hiking our four-legged kids. But, right now it is snowing outside, I’ve got a hot cup of coffee and I feel it is time to ruminate on the past 12 months. My booking agent/part-time fiddle player/sister has done a great job these last few years keeping you all up-to-date on my wanderings, but I am now taking over, for I will soon have another niece or nephew! There could be some months where I talk about the weather in the mountains, stacking and chopping wood, the funny things our pets do, gigs, instruments, songs, or what new beer(s) I have found. I can’t promise these ramblings will be consistent, make any sense at all, or even be worth your time to read, but they will be spontaneous and sometimes superfluous. I hope you come along for the ride.

Honest music from me to you…

Sometimes it might seem that my music is all over the place, and maybe it is, but I have a penchant for learning new instruments and playing different styles of music. Music is what I know how to do best. Sure, I’ve tried other things, but honestly, they just didn’t take. I’ve mowed grass, washed dishes, waited tables, painted houses, pounded nails, and even planted pansies. But, what else can you do in life that takes you around the world, all the while making, literally, hundreds of dollars a year! It’s what I do. Solo, duo (w/ James Moors) and with the High Road (Ian Morlock and Ray Smith). As a few friends have said, “Living the life of Riley.” Anyways, we’ll get to that later. Thanks for the support. I love what I do. I’d still sing and play even if I didn’t have any fans. So, I’ll leave you with this philosophical question: “if a folk singer sings his songs in the mountains and no one is around to hear him, does he make a sound?” Feel free to comment and discuss the possibility of unperceived existence.
